Butch Vig minimizes the rumors about the previously unreleased songs of Kurt Cobain

Butch Vig tells NME, “He was working on songs, but they were just in his head. He might have just played some songs to Eric… Around that time period he only wanted to talk about Courtney’s album. I never heard any of his new songs.”

Kurt Cobain was working on a solo album before his death

Notably, that Cobain was demoing new songs at the time of his death that transcended anything he’d written so far: “[Kurt] was headed in a direction that was really cool. It would have been his White Album,” Erlandson says, referring to the Beatles’ self-titled magnum opus.
He adds, “That’s really what he was going towards, a solo album but working with different people. I was really excited about some of the stuff he was working on. I got to see him play it in front of me. That’s why I was really sad [when he died]. I was like, ‘Oh man, not only are you cutting off a life, but a message to the world, a musical path is just left with … Bush and all this other stuff [laughs]. He was cut short. Who knows where the music would have gone.”
Erlandson adds that a demo of Cobain performing a cover of a well-known song exists, but he wouldn’t confess which song it was, exactly.
“There is one cover… I won’t say what it is. I don’t own the stuff,” explains Erlandson. “I just hope that one day it will be released for fans. It’s just so heartbreaking.” I then asked if the song would be considered a surprising selection for Cobain, who loved everything from Creedence Clearwater Revival to Metallica. “No, it’s not surprising. It’s a very sweet, just touching song.”
He adds that an album of rough Cobain demos could someday be released. “I heard some talk about somebody putting together some raw, rough acoustic thing … and that would be more intimate than the box set [2004's With the Lights Out], because all those little jams you have to throw out [for that box set release]. They presented some [of the demos] but there is stuff that has not been put out.”
I mentioned a favorite of those demos, “Do Re Mi,” and Erlandson said the unreleased material was in that vein.
“Imagine that,” he says of an album of rough demos. “I’m not in control of things. I just wish something would come together. I think the fans would be a lot happier. If nobody ever hears those songs, except for like three people, then … that’s the way it goes.”

Nuevo libro relacionado con Kurt Cobain

New book of the 90s
From Anthony Polito

The story is about a teenage boy from 2012 named Kurt who travels back in time to April 1994 where he meets his teenage parents and helps them get together.  The action takes place on the eve of Cobain’s suicide, an event that plays an integral role in the plot.
I’m actually self-pubbing the book because all the “real” NY publishers insisted that no one would want to read a story set in the ’90s. I hope to prove them all wrong!

Nueva película de Clint Eastwood inspirada en Kurt Cobain

New Clint Eastwood film inspired by Kurt Cobain

Screenwriter Will Fetters has revealed that Clint Eastwood’s upcoming film A Star Is Born is based upon Kurt Cobain, according to SPIN.com:
“I said, for me, the framework was if Kurt Cobain never got to go Unplugged and survived, and it was 20 years later, now; then he wanted to do that album, with that understanding that he was this grunge icon, that’d be tough to get done,” Fetters said of his inspiration. “If he was past his prime and no longer someone, how does he get that album? The whole movie for me is this balance between art and commerce, which is when you first start in this business, you are smacked in the face with it.”

Courtney Love talks of how his life would have been if Kurt were alive
Our Town: An Oral History of Grunge:

Here’s a couple of quotes from Mark Yarm’s new Spin article where Courtney Love discusses where her relationship with Kurt Cobain might be at if he were still alive today.  The quotes were from when Yarm interviewed Love for his book Everybody Loves Our Town: An Oral History of Grunge:
“We’d probably live on the Upper West fuckin’ Side now and have three fuckin’ kids,” she told me, unprompted, in February 2011.   “We might even have a divorce, like both be on our third marriage. I don’t fuckin’ know. He might be a playwright, [or have] his latest show in MoMA [New York's Museum of Modern Art].”
“I’d have a 16-year-old son and be his model wife. Given the money that is involved here” — she was referring to the tens of millions she says were stolen from Cobain’s estate — “we could probably have had a fuckin’ yacht. We could have gone open marriage at some point.” Again she stressed, “I don’t fuckin’ know.”

Eric Erlandson (Ex Hole) criticizes the books and films of theories about the possible murder of Kurt Cobain
IN ENGLISH
Here are two quotes from LA Weekly‘s new interview with former Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson about his new book Letters to Kurt:
“[Kurt and Courtney, the documentary] was made by somebody that is not a conscious person, or was not conscious when he made it. That movie was made in a tabloid manner, and I wasn’t interviewed for it. Same with the books, even sanctioned biographies, they never interviewed me. They never have the full story. They’ve never reached out to me. And I have not talked about any of that to the press.”
“There’s that cartoon side of [Courtney Love] that is intimidating, but deep down inside there is a sweet little kitten. I got to see that, I was lucky enough to see that when we dated. I got to see a lot of that side of her that people don’t know anymore.”

The end of the life of a Rock Star, Kurt Cobain

Frohman and his assistants quickly put together a makeshift studio in a small room at the New York hotel where the group was staying.  Their manager had nixed the original plan to shoot outdoors.

Band members Dave Grohl and Krist Novocelic arrived promptly at 11:00 a.m., when the shoot was to begin, but lead singer Kurt Cobain was a nowhere to be found.  Three hours later, Cobain showed up in a pair of large, white Jackie O sunglasses.  In a whisper, he asked for a bucket.
Frohman asked, “Sure, but what for?”
Cobain replied, “‘Cause I think I’m gonna puke.”

Knowing the Nirvana front man was a heroin addict, Frohman wasn’t surprised by the request, but it added to the anger that was building inside him.  The shoot had gone wrong from the beginning and looked to get worse.

Frohman was invited to Roseland Ballroom, where the band was performing later in the evening, with a promise by Dave and Krist that he could take some more photos of them after their rehearsal.  After the band finished he approached Cobain, but was told that there would be no more pictures.

His shoot effectively over, Frohman called the magazine and expressed his frustration with the whole experience.  He was also trying to manage expectations; he thought the session was a total bust.
It was only after he got the contact sheets of the shoot back from the photo lab that he realized he’d captured some amazing moments — some of Cobain’s last.

Frohman’s insightful portrait of an idol transcends the nature of celebrity photography.  The pictures are as humanizing as they are glorifying.  Cobain appears as a goofily provocative iconoclast, while revealing a more depressing side of the life of a great artist dependent on drugs.  These photographs, captured not long before the time of his death, provide a fascinating insight into the end of the life of a rock star.
An exhibition of Frohman’s shoot will open at New York’s Morrison Hotel Gallery on April 6, 2012.
