En un día como hoy pero de 1989, el álbum debut de Nirvana, Bleach, es lanzado. Las primeras 1.000 copias fueron impresas en vinilo blanco. Las segundas 2.000 copias incluían un poster de edición limitada. Sub Pop describió la música de la banda en su copia promocional de Bleach como “pesadez hipnótica y justa de estas estrellas pop de Olympia, son jóvenes, poseen su propia furgoneta, nos van a hacer ricos”

"Somos mayores, por supuesto y veo cierta madurez en las canciones, pero suena como Soundgarden,", dice.

"Es nuevo, pero es todavía definitivamente nosotros. Un cantante que hace lo que él quiere, un guitarrista que toca como a el le apetece (Kim Thayil) – y otros bateristas se quitarán de sus puesto cuando vean lo que ha hecho Matt(Cameron). Si eres un fan de Soundgarden lo vas a disfrutar".

Ahora Matt está de vuelta en una banda muy popular y está aparentemente viviendo el sueño cada vez más, cómo es la vida...

“We’re older, of course, and I see some maturity in the songs, but it sounds like Soundgarden,” he says.


“It’s new, but it’s still definitely us. Our singer who does what he does, a guitarist who plays like he (Kim Thayil) does – and other drummers will probably quit when they hear what Matt (Cameron) has done. If you’re a Soundgarden fan you’re going to dig it.”


So it’s no more couch-surfing for Shepherd who has returned to one of the greatest alternative rock bands of the ’90s and is back on the touring circuit living the rock star lifestyle.


Now that Shepherd is back in a hugely popular band and is seemingly living the dream once again, how is life?


“Nothing has really changed,” he laughs.


“I still pay the electric bill and go to the supermarket.”

I had just put my bags down in our hotel room in London and turned on MTV. I saw the video for ‘Heart-Shaped Box.’ That was the first time I’d heard the song, too. I freaked out and was like, ‘I need to get ahold of Kurt right now.’ Yeah, I can feel Kurt. A million miles away, and in one song. One note, one little drain of his voice, that’s when I could feel it. It was a bad feeling. Like, It’s either him or me. Kurt, don’t. That’s what I felt like. So I tried to get ahold of Kurt for our entire European tour. But no one helped me get ahold of him from our camp. No one paid attention.


Acababa de poner mis maletas en la habitación del Hotel de Londres y puse la MTV. Vi el video de "Heart-Shaped Box" También fue la 1º vez que escuché la canción. Me asusté y fue como " Tengo que ponerme en contacto con Kurt ahora mismo" Yeah, podía sentir a Kurt, A millones de millas, y en una canción. Una nota, un fuga pequeña de su voz, así fue como lo podía sentir. Era un mal presentimiento. Como, o él o yo.
