Gossard y Walla recordaron memorias de la KCMU  (Universidad de Washington), la estación de radio pública de Seattle que fue clave en el apoyo a la escena rock emergente de la zona en los años 80 y principios de los ‘ 90.

“[KCMU, sucesor KEXP] es probablemente una de las más influyentes organizaciones de música allí en términos de su impacto en Seattle, pero también en su impacto en todo el mundo… Y el modelo con el que está trabajando…  está confiando en sus DJs en un grado enorme para crear esta mezcla que la gente va a amar… Sus fans lo están apoyando,”meditaba Gossard, discutiendo la transformación de la estación de radio de la Universidad a la KEXP actual . Él también cita el continuo apoyo de Pearl Jam y su otra gran banda, Brad, que lanzó un nuevo álbum, “United We Stand,”

Both Gossard and Walla recalled memories of University of Washington’s KCMU, the Seattle public radio station that was key in supporting the area’s emerging rock scene in the ’80s and early ’90s.

“[KCMU successor KEXP] is probably one of the most influential music design organizations out there in terms of their impact in Seattle, but also their impact worldwide… And the model that they’re working with… which is they’re trusting their DJs to an enormous degree to create this blend that people are going to love… Their fans are supporting it,” Gossard mused, discussing the station’s transformation from college radio hub KCMU to the current KEXP in 2001. He also cites the station’s ongoing support of Pearl Jam and his other long-running band Brad, which released a new album, “United We Stand,” this week.

Según ha hecho saber Billy Corgan a Crestfallen, “Oceania”, el nuevo disco de The Smashing Pumpkins no contará con ningún single para radios y que aproximadamente una semana antes de su lanzamiento, será puesto en ‘streaming’ “para que todo el mundo puedo oírlo y decidir si creen que vale la pena o no (…) No tratamos de vender el álbum a partir de una canción.”

“The current plan is to make it about the album. Meaning, we are having a lot of conversations, none of which are finalized, but essentially somewhere in the week-or-less period before the album is actually available for sale, we make it so everybody can hear the album, and they decided on their own whether or not they think it’s a worthy work. So, we’re not sending out copies for review. We’re not trying to sell the album off of one song. We believe that the album in totality will be significant enough that people will be motivated to want to own it…if you want the marketing campaign that is essentially it in a nut shell.”

El guitarrista de Stone Temple Pilots Dean DeLeo hizo una aparición sorpresa en WRAT 95.9FM ayer en el Lago Como, NJ (cerca de la casa de pueblo de Dean en Point Pleasant). DeLeo caminó a la recepción y dijo “Quién dirige este lugar?” La mujer de la mesa de trabajo le preguntó por qué y él respondió, “Porque vosotros “rockeais”.” Luego fue reconocido por un DJ y hizo una entrevista en vivo donde habló del Core XX aniversario y de la nueva música de STP. Stone Temple Pilots guitarist Dean DeLeo made a surprise appearance at WRAT 95.9FM The Rat yesterday in Lake Como, NJ (near Dean’s home town of Point Pleasant). DeLeo walked up to the front desk and said “Who runs this place?” The woman working the desk asked him why and he replied, “Cause you guys rock.” He was then recognized by a DJ and did a live interview where he talked about Core’s 20th anniversary and new STP music. Nor the interview or a recap are available online yet, but I’m trying to contact the station so we can get an update on STP’s 7th album.  Stone Temple Pilots’ most recent album was their fantastic self-titled album from 2010, which spawned the rock radio hit “Between the Lines.”
