En 2010 Creed regresaron con gira y nuevo álbum, “Full Circle”, compuesto y grabado en tiempo récord. Ahora ya preparan la continuación del irregular disco.

“Pasamos entre tres a cuatro semanas ensayando y componiendo nuevo material,” ha dado a conocer el vocalista Scott Stapp a Rolling Stone. “Tenemos la sensación de que cinco (canciones nuevas) tienen la simetría y continuidad en ellas mismas y aparecerán en el disco. Así que si lo quieres ver desde esa perspectiva, estamos a medio camino.”

El guitarrista Mark Tremonti cuenta que “hay dos que quizá escuches en la radio. Hay una más heavy, energética. Y hay otra que es más tranquila, lenta, en plan ‘Faceless Man’. Es un poco disperso pero estamos contentos con lo que tenemos hasta ahora.”

De acuerdo a Stapp en esta ocasión no correrán. “Podríamos empezar a grabar en marzo y (si eso pasa), por supuesto que tendremos el disco en la calle en verano. Vamos a continuar componiendo hasta que sintamos que tengamos el mejor álbum, el más potente que hayamos hecho. Esa es nuestra meta. Si nos lleva un año hacerlo y el álbum no sale hasta el año que viene, que así sea.”

La banda saldrá de gira en abril para tocar íntegramente sus dos primeros álbumes algo que ha servido a Tremonti para recordarle algunas de las máximas de aquellos inicios. “Te recuerda que no debes complicar las cosas. Nos mantendremos fieles a las grandes melodías que creo que siempre ha sido la esencia de la banda. La verdad es que se está filtrándose en la nueva música.”

El próximo mes de abril, Creed saldrán de gira por EEUU para tocar dos fechas en cada ciudad sus dos primeros discos, “My Own Prison” y “Human Clay”.

“Sienta bien poder tocar esas canciones en orden, en la manera en que siempre debían haber sido escuchadas,” reconoce el frontman Scott Stapp a Noisecreep.

“Va a ser un año muy liado para Creed,” explica. “Aparte de esta gira, estamos componiendo nuestro quinto álbum. Esperamos sacar algo de música nueva estando de gira. También estoy escribiendo mi libro. Voy a compartir sinceramente todas las experiencias por las que he pasado. También va a aclarar algunas cosas que circulan por ahí sobre mi pero tampoco se centrará en eso.”

Denostados o no, Creed han dejado huella en un gran número de grupos que suenan actualmente en la radio. “Si, lo oigo constantemente, pero estoy contento por ello. Es un gran honor y es bonito ver que hemos creado impacto. Desde el punto de vista de la guitarra, creo que estábamos mucho más influídos por el metal que muchas de las otras bandas que sonaban en la radio cuando salimos nosotros. Creo que el modo en que combinamos nuestras influencias fue fácilmente digerible. Conectó con mucha gente.

The month of April, Creed will tour us to play two dates in each city their first two albums, “My Own Prison” and “Human Clay”.

“Me sigue encantando tocar ‘Torn’, ‘My Own Prison’ y ‘Unforgiven’,” asegura el guitarrista Mark Tremonti a ARTISTdirect. “Tocas algunas de esas ahora y sientes que eras solo un chaval cuando las compusiste, que hace tanto tiempo. Cuando tocas algunas de las partes musicales, sabes que ahora harías algo diferente. De algún modo, mola volver a visitar y ver donde tenías la cabeza y como has crecido.”

Cuenta que “en ‘My Own Prison’ todo es bastante directo. Hay un par de riffs aquí y allí que molaban bastante. En general, el primer álbum fue bastante simple en general. Al meternos con el segundo y el tercero, habíamos aprendido mucho por el camino y profundizamos un poco con las canciones.”

Le preguntan por “Pity For A Dime”, tema incluído en “My Own Prison”: “Siempre me ha gustado esa canción. Surgió mientras jugagaba con el estribillo y saqué la letra, ‘Sell My Pity For A Dime’. Scott (Stapp) terminó la letra. Fue uno de mis primeros solos. Tiene un rollo de rock clásico molón.”

De “Inside Us All” (“Human Clay”) cuenta “recuerdo estar en la universidad escribiendo ese estribillo. Llamé a Scott y le dije que tenía un gran estribillo y quería que lo oyera. Me encantó y a él también desde el principio. La construímos juntos bastante deprisa. Viene marcada por la melodía más que por la música. Es una buena canción deprimente y apasionada.”

El guitarrista se sorprende por como ha aprendido desde su primer disco. “Cuando vuelvo a ‘My Own Prison’ es, sin duda, volver a mi yo mucho menos experimentado donde todo es tan simple y básico. Hay mucho espacio donde ahora harías muchas cosas. Aquello quizá tuvo tanto éxito porque era tan digerible. Uno sobre-complica las cosas cuando aprendes a sobre-complicar las cosas (risas) Esas canciones son conducidas por la melodía.”

De las primeras sesiones como banda, recuerda: “Al principio, teníamos otro bajista y otro guitarrista. Yo tocaba riffs metaleros y Scott cantaba un rollo tipo U2. Poco a poco, mientras más tocábamos, más nos pusimos en la misma onda. Estar en Creed se llevó algunas de mis raíces metaleras y me metamofoseó en lo que oyes en los discos.”

La banda ya trabaja en material para su próximo disco. “Creo que es una buena mezcla de todo. Tenemos algo de material que recuerda al rollo de ‘My Own Prison’ y el otro día compusimos un tema que tiene un aire a ‘My Sacrifice’. Compusimos una canción que tiene un rollo a ‘Unforgiven’. Va de un lado a otro. No tratamos de sobre-complicarlo. Dejamos que fluya naturalmente y hasta ahora estamos felices. El nuevo disco está quedando sólido. Estamos emocionados por seguir adelante.”

Para componer, explica que “compongo solo completamente. No puedo tener ni siquiera a mi mujer cerca cuando estoy componiendo las ideas de melodías. Puedo componer riffs con cualquiera al lado pero cuando canto para mi, tienes que equivocarte y sonar mal cuando compones algo, así que siempre lo hago solo. Anoto todas mis ideas y me junto con los chicos y saco las cosas. La mayoría de veces, les gusta. Si no les gusta, les muestro otra parte. Una vez les gustan las partes, se las pongo a Scott y él improvisa por encima. Si algo no sale, les muestro lo restante que tenía y fundimos nuestras melodías. Las melodías son los más importante. Es lo que me trabajo más.”

Creed are preparing for their upcoming North American tour which will play their first two albums ("My Own Prison" and "Human Clay") from beginning to end.

"I still loved playing 'Torn', 'My Own Prison' and 'Unforgiven'," says guitarist Mark Tremonti at ARTISTdirect. "Play some of those now and feel that you were just a kid when you compusiste them, so long ago." When you play some of the musical parts, you know that you would now do something different. "Somehow, mola revisit and see where you had your head and how you've grown."

The band is already working on material for their next album. "I think that it is a good mix of everything." To compose, he explains that "I compose only completely." I can not even have my wife close when I'm writing the ideas of melodies. Scott Stapp and Mark Tremonti from Creed appeared on the VH1 Classic Metal Evolution Grunge special and talked about Grunge. Stapp had this to say regarding to being called an Eddie Vedder ripoff:

Scott Stapp: That was a comparison the press was making. I thought it was only natural, I had a baritone 

voice. I’ve heard Cornell, I’ve heard Vedder, I’ve heard Hootie and the Blowfish.

Tremonti and Stapp also had the following to say about Grunge.

Scott Stapp: I think we started something new. I think Grunge ended and then we came out, and it was more of a timeless classic rock music kind of thing. We believe that if those same people that may have hated us dug deeper into our records, they’d end up buying it.

Mark Tremonti: My roots were in metal so the darker leading stuff like the earlier Soundgarden stuff I was really into, the first Alice In Chains record. It seemed like all of the bands within the Grunge movement weren’t very alike. It’s hard to pinpoint what the grunge scene was, because Soundgarden and Mudhoney and the Screaming Trees are very different bands and to lump us in there as well.

Scott Stapp: It wasn’t something that bothered us from that standpoint of we’re getting just thrown away and passed off as a sound-alike because we knew our sound was totally different.

Sin embargo, el batería Scott Philipps ha tranquilizado a los fans vía Stereoboard indicando que “probablemente en 2013 habrá una reunión de Alter Bridge y diligentemente nos pondremos a trabar en un nuevo disco y gira tan pronto como podamos.”

Prisión de éxitos (Creed)

Creed volverán a ponerse en marcha el año próximo aprovechando el parón de Alter Bridge y lo hará con una serie de dos conciertos especiales en tres ciudades. ¿Qué tendrán de especiales los conciertos? Pues que la banda de Scott Stapp repasará de principio a fin sus dos primeros discos. Así, en la primera fecha tocarán "My Own Prison" junto con una selección de temas de su carrera mientras que el segundo día será el turno para "Human Clay", habiendo sitio también para otra selección de temas de su discografía. Las tres ciudades elegidas son Chicago (13 y 14 d abril), Philadelphia (16 y 17 de abril) y Nueva York (19 y 20 de abril).


"Vamos a hacer esto por nuestros fans," asegura Stapp a Billboard. "Han hablado tanto en Twitter y Facebook, 'Tocad más canciones... De 'My Own Prison' y de 'Human Clay' - lo mismo que de 'Weathered' e inlcuso de 'Full Circle'. La banda se juntó y el management, y un día hablamos de ello; no recuerdo a quien se le ocurrió pero nos encantó la idea: ir a pequeños locales, a tocar los discos de principio a fin. Creo que es una gran manera para que la banda reconecte con sus raíces y unos con otros y con nuestros fans de manera muy íntima."


Tiene ganas el vocalista de tocar algunas canciones que nunca antes han tocado en vivo y además, también caerán algunas caras B. Cuenta que "la manera en que los álbumes se construyeron hace años es que cuentan una historia de principio a fin así que se supone que deben tocarse así. Hay una razón por la que compusimos las canciones y las pusimos de esa manera y las organizamos así en los discos. Tienen un fluir natural, para facilitar su escucha - todo será cuestión de ponernos al día con las canciones que no hemos tocado desde hace años. Pero creo que eso saldrá bastante rápidamente."


"Creo que tocar esa música del pasado y todo ese material que no hemos tocado (nunca en directo) nos reconectará con muchas emociones y nos incitará para tener más inspiración," continua. Afirma que el cuarteto ya tiene "unos seis temas" para el nuevo álbum aunque "tratamos de no correr. Seguimos siendo una banda a la que le gusta crear álbumes y no solo sacar tres canciones que creamos que vayan a ir bien en la radio y saca un álbum. Queremos sacar álbumes sólidos y que sea un proceso orgánico, igual que tuvimos con los discos previos."


Stapp, mientras sus compañeros de banda siguen de gira por Europa y luego Australia con Alter Bridge, dedica su tiempo a completar su autobiografía y a trabajar en material para un segundo disco en solitario. "Está en el horizonte. Ahora mismo me centro en mi bebé, que es Creed, pero sin duda pronto habrá otro disco en solitario."
