Jerry Cantrell talks about new album of Alice In Chains

El guitarrista/cantante de Alice In Chains habló con la Rolling Stone del próximo 5º album de la banda:

“Es hora de ponerse a trabajar y el material es realmente interesante, el cuerpo del trabajo que ya hemos hecho,” dice Cantrell. “Será tan diferente como cualquiera de nuestras grabaciones  y también será reconocible por si misma. Es una grabación de Alice, eso seguro”.

Jerry también dijo que espera que el nuevo álbum que esté para finales de 2013 / comienzos de 2012, y que la banda no se apresura a hacerlo. Jerry ha estado recuperándose de un hombro lesionado, pero ya es capaz de volver a trabajar en el álbum.

También habló con la revista Rolling Stone del premio Stevie Ray Vaughn de MAP/MusiCares, dijo que está muy honrado, también dijo, “No soy el puto modelo de nadie”, dice. Es demasiada presión: “todo el mundo es humano, todo el mundo tiene defectos, todo el mundo cae. Es simplemente una puta realidad. Y un montón de gente aguanta después de la caída. Alice In Chains singer/guitarist Jerry Cantrell talked to Rolling Stone about Alice In Chains’ upcoming fifth studio album
“It‘s time to get to work and the material is really interesting, the body of work that we’ve done,” Cantrell says. “It’ll be as different as any one of our records is to any other, and it’ll also be just as recognizable. It’s an Alice record, for sure.”
Jerry also stated that he expects the new album to be out in late 2012/early 2013, and that the band aren’t rushing it. Jerry has been recovering from an injured shoulder but is just now able to get back to work on the album.
He also talked to Rolling Stone about being given with the Stevie Ray Vaughn award later this month by MAP/MusiCares, while he said he is very honored he also stated, “I am nobody’s fucking role model,” he says. It’s too much pressure: “Everybody’s human, everybody has flaws, everybody falls down. It’s just a fucking fact of life. And a lot of people stand and get the fuck back up after falling. Some people don’t get that chance. My band’s been a harsh example of that – what happens when you don’t deal with it.”

Jerry Cantrell será honrado en el show benéfico de MusiCares MAP  en Los Ángeles el 31 de mayo segun Blabbermouth.  Él podrá recibir el Premio de Stevie Ray Vaughn, y Alice In Chains tocará en el show.  El show se llevará a cabo en el Club Nokia y será la primera actuación de AIC de 2012.

Jerry Cantrell will be honored at MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit Show in Los Angeles on May 31st according to Blabbermouth.  He’ll be receiving the Stevie Ray Vaughn Award, and Alice In Chains will perform.  The show will take place at Club Nokia, and will be AIC’s first performance of 2012.

“From what I’ve seen, addiction can be an occupational hazard in the music business and I know firsthand how the MusiCares MAP Fund helps artists and members of the music community find the resources for recovery,” said Cantrell. “I’ve been a supporter for a long time, and I’m proud to help raise awareness and funds so this organization can continue to save lives.”

The Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is doing something out-of-the-box when it comes to the usually droning airport announcements welcoming you to the city and casually reminding you about what you can and cannot do at the airport. The airport is launching a multi-channel program starring some of the most popular musicians and celebrities in the Northwest music mecca.

Grunge legend Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains, singer Ben Gibbard of alternative band Death Cab for Cutie, hip-hop personality Macklemore and more have taped PSAs to notify travelers about the airport’s policies.

Cantrell’s PSA broadcasts the airport’s no-smoking policy: “This is Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains reminding you that smoking is allowed on the lower drive outside the building and only in designated areas … Bummer, dude.”

This campaign will also launch “dynamic media elements,” such as music pumped through the airport 

by icons like Nirvana, Ray Charles and Heart. Video segments on terminal monitors will also feature original content from MTV, Light in the Attic Records and more.

“Seattle is known around the world for its music culture, so it’s great to see this identity embraced and showcased to all the travelers going through the airport,” Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn said in a release. “Jet City, meet Music City.”

“The Port is pleased to be a leader in this effort to promote the region’s music industry and to increase the visibility of local musicians at the airport,” added John Creighton, Port of Seattle Commissioner. “From Jimi Hendrix to the Wilson sisters, Chris Cornell and many others, the Seattle area has a strong music heritage. El plan principal de banda es entrar en el estudio a principios de este año, segun Cantrell. La ruptura entre las grabaciones  no estaba originalmente destinada a ser de tres años, pero Cantrell tuvo que lidiar con algunas dolencias médicas: "tuve una cirugía de hombro. Tuve que conseguir unas espuelas de hueso y cartílago desgarrado, cuidado, por lo ponen me devuelven un poco,"dice. "Pero nos hemos estado escribiendo a través de todo el proceso".

The band plans to head into the studio early this year, according to Cantrell. The break between records wasn’t originally intended to be three years, but Cantrell had to deal with some medical ailments: “I had shoulder surgery. I had to get some bone spurs and torn cartilage taken care of, so that put me back a little bit,” he says. “But we’ve been writing through the whole process.”

Jerry, sentí que "Black Gives Way to Blue" fue el mejor álbum de Rock del 2009. He leído de que estais trabajando con la banda para grabar un disco. ¿Existe cualquier plazo sobre cuándo podemos esperar a escucharlo?


Jerry Cantrell (16:14): cada vez que podemos lo hacemos... Horarios en la música, conozco personas  que lo han hecho y decir que necesitan un álbum fuera de esta fecha y hablas  de gira del álbum, puede quemar rápidamente. Lo hicimos con nuestra banda. Hemos tenido la suerte de estar asociados con las empresas que respetan el proceso. Nunca realmente  estamos obligados a hacer música. Si no sucede, entonces no. Hemos estado escribiendo mucho. También tuve una cirugía en el hombro a principios de este año. Estoy en el final de la cola de la recuperación. Aquello nos retrasó un poco. Pero tenemos algunas cosas. Haremos algún escrito. Esperemos que lo tendremos en el próximo año. Pondremos fuera cuanto creemos que vale la pena poner.


Question: Jerry,I felt Black Gives Way to Blue was the best Rock album of 2009. I have read that you are working with the band to record a follow up. Is there any timeframe on when we can expect to hear it?


Jerry Cantrell (4:14 PM): Whenever we’re done. Schedules in music, I know people have done it and say you need an album out by this date and you’re talking about album tour, it can burn you out quickly. It did with our band. We’ve been fortunate to be partnered up with companies that respect the process. We’re never really forced to make music. If it doesn’t happen, then it doesn’t. We’ve been writing a lot. I also had shoulder surgery earlier this year. I’m at the tail end of rehabbing that. That put us back a little bit. But we have some stuff. We’ll do some writing. Hopefully we’ll have it out next year. We’ll put it out when we feel that it’s worth putting out.

“The Music Bank was open 24 hours. You could go there and knock on the door at 3 in the morning and the guy that was working the keys would come, look through a peephole, let you in if you had a room there, walk you to your room, unlock it with the key—he had a huge key ring with probably 150 keys on it—and you were good to go.
     ”Layne [Staley] was one of the key guys, and he usually worked the graveyard shift. Jerry [Cantrell, pictured] was living in our jam room, so in the middle of the night, Jerry would be in the office with Layne, watching TV with his guitar in hishand saying, ‘Hey, dude, check out this riff. I got this idea.’ That’s quite a big catalyst to that incredible connection those two had.”
