Fucking Sam Bayer is great. Just totally different style than mine. Incredible song, of course. It was dark and ugly and sexy, and Cobain was creepy and funny. It’s just like, God, I can’t imagine the song and the video separate from each other. The video sort of defined that song, and the time—it was just post-Madonna, post-Jovi, you know what I mean? It was like, This is what we need. It was the tonic for the times.

El jodido Sam Bayaer es genial, tiene un estilo totalmente diferente al mío. También una canción increible, Era oscura, fea y sexy y Cobain estaba espeluznante y divertido. Era como, Dios, no me puedo imaginar la canción separada del video y viceversa. I think Mark Pellington is a really talented guy; Pearl Jam’s an amazing band. I just thought my Nirvana video was more interesting. I never liked seeing lyrics brought to life literally. I don’t wanna see children frozen, covered in blood. I don’t wanna picture who Jeremy is. I was too much of an ambitious, jealous, competitive guy to see any merit in that video.

Pìenso que Mark Pellington es un tio con verdadero talento; Y Pearl Jam es una banda alucinante. Pienso que mi video de Nirvana era más interesante. Nunca me gusto las letras que cobran vida, literalmente. No quería ver a niños confelados y cuviertos de sangre. No quiero imaginar quien es Jeremy. Yo era demasiado ambicioso, celoso y competitivo para ver algún mérito en ese video

Right when it started coming out that Kurt was doing drugs, I remember Steven Tyler called and wanted to help. I told Kurt, ‘Holy shit, Steven Tyler called my office and he wants to help you. Can I give him your number?’ And he was like, ‘Steven Tyler got to be a junkie for 18 fuckin’ years. I’ve only been doing drugs for an hour.’ Lots of stars called. Kirstie Alley called a lot for Courtney to try and make her become a Scientologist.
