En un día como hoy pero de 1991, Screaming Trees lanzó al mercado "Uncle Anesthesia"

Y también en un día como hoy del 1991 Mookie Blaylock (Pearl Jam) grababan demos en los estudios London Bridge. Incluía a "Alive" "Wash" y un cover de los Beatles "I've got a feeling."

Y en un día como hoy pero de 1996 Pearl Jam ganaron el America Music Awards de mejor artista Hard Rock/Heavy Metal y el de mejor artista alternativo

La leyenda del baloncesto Dennis Rodman estubo en la "red" de la NBA y dijo que a principio de los 90s tenía una pistola en su mano y estaba sentado fuera del "Palace" y estaba contemplando el suicidio, y escuchaba Pearl Jam. Obviamente Rodman no llegó a tanto, tal vez Pearl Jam le salvó?

Basketball legend Dennis Rodman was on the NBA Network and said that in the early 90′s he had a gun in his hand and was sitting outside of The Palace and was contemplating suicide, and he was listening to Pearl Jam. Obviously Rodman didn’t go through with it, maybe Pearl Jam helped save him?

Anja Reinhard: Cuando escuché el álbum, me di cuenta otra vez que vivimos en tiempos muy oscuros. En los años ochenta fue todo sobre el dinero, en los años noventa a la fiesta y a divertirse. Pero los últimos cinco años se determinan por crisis muy diferentes. Crisis climática, crisis bancaria, crisis financiera, la contaminación y mucho más. ¿Estás de acuerdo con eso?

Mark Lanegan: Tal vez estoy demasiado ocupado conmigo mismo, pero no es realmente  es mi manera de ver las cosas. Prefiero  ocupar mi preocupación con las cosas que verdaderamente YO controlo. En la vida hay muchísimas cosas sobre las que no tenemos poder alguno. Y eso no es bueno . ¿Qué otra cosa es, por supuesto, si a alguien le pasa algo malo. Si alguien ha experimentado algo malo, estoy con él. Pero no creo que mi punto de vista de las cosas y acontecimientos pueda cambiar algo

Anja Reinhard: los textos de tus canciones no son exactamente de descuido.

Mark Lanegan: La felicidad es relativa. Algo oscuro, puede ser gracioso o alentoso para otra persona. Personalmente, encuentro mi paz y otras cosas  como la felicidad o consuelo en canciones que otros considerarían como algo muy oscuro. Hombre, puedes entonces identificarte con ella. Para mí el mejor tipo de música es en la que tengo la sensación de que pueden compartir una experiencia con alguien.

Anja Reinhard: En los últimos años has trabajado con varias personas procedentes de la 

música electrónica, como Unkle o Tim Simenon de Bomb The Bass. ¿Lo harás más en el futuro?

Mark Lanegan: siempre que he escuchado música, tenía elementos electrónicos. En mi último registro lo he utilizado, por ejemplo,  con viejos ritmos y sintetizadores que tienen ciertas texturas que quiero utilizar para mi música. Esto crea un paisaje acústico muy diferente, si lo deseas. Se ha convertido en este álbum, he escuchado mucho de viejas cosas de Alemania: Can, Neu, Harmonia, Cluster, Kraftwerk, esas cosas las he oído durante años, pero nunca tan intensamente!. Luego compré algunas viejas máquinas de batería y teclados y en lugar de la habitual para componer con la guitarra, las canciones que he estado usando estos dispositivos. Y probablemente siga haciéndolo

Anja Reinhard: When I heard the album, I noticed again that we live in pretty dark times. In the eighties it was all about money, in the nineties to party and have fun. But the last five years are determined by very different crises. Climate crisis, banking crisis, financial crisis, pollution and much more. Do you agree with that?


Mark Lanegan: Maybe I’m just too busy with myself, but that’s not really my way of seeing things. I prefer to concern myself with things about which I am in control. In life there are so incredibly much about which we have no power. I’m so not that good. What else is there, of course, if someone I know, bad. If someone has experienced something bad, then I’m with. But I do not think about that my view of things and events could perhaps change something.


Anja Reinhard: Where the texts are full of your songs are not exactly on carelessness.


Mark Lanegan: Happiness is relative. What happens to a dark, can be funny or encouragement for another person. Personally, I find my peace and quite such a thing as happiness or solace in songs that others would regard as very dark. Man, you can then identify yourself with it. For me the best kind of music is the one where I have the feeling that they can share an experience with someone.


Anja Reinhard: In recent years you have worked with several people coming from the electronic music, such as Unkle or Tim Simenon of Bomb The Bass. Are you doing more in the future?


Mark Lanegan: I’ve always listened to music, had the electronic elements. On my last record I’ve used, for example, old drum machines and synthesizers that have certain textures that I like to use for my music. This creates a very different acoustic landscape, if you will. Has emerged as this album, I’ve heard a lot of old stuff from Germany: Can, Neu, Harmonia, Cluster, Kraftwerk, those things that I hear has been for years, but never so intensely!. Then I bought some old drum machines and keyboards, and instead of the usual to compose with the guitar, the songs I’ve been using these devices. And probably I’m going to write this kind continue.
