Los de Billy Corgan tampoco han querido perderse esta primera cita chicharrera y cerrarán el cartel del jueves, 24 de mayo. Llegan al Archipiélago celebrando 25 años de carrera y con su nuevo trabajo, Oceania. El grupo, liderado por Billy Corgan, lo forman el guitarrista Mike Byrne, la bajista Nicole Fiorentino y Jeff Schroeder también a la guitarra.

Con temas como 1979; Tonight, tonight; Perfect, Ava Adore o The Everlasting Gazemarcaron una época dentro del rock. Tras su reunificación en 2007 y después de siete años de separación del grupo, The Smashing Pumpkins lanzó Zeitgeist. En principio, Corgan, después de esta grabación en estudio, aseguró que el formato disco tradicional había muerto, y se propuso lanzar a través de InternetTeargarden by Kaleidoscope, un goteo de 44 canciones cuya publicación en la red empezó en 2009 con A Song for a Son y que aún sigue desgranando temas con una periodicidad poco regular. Sin embargo, Corgan decidió que algunas de esas canciones debían ir juntas y lanzarse en el formato tradicional, por lo que The Smashing Pumpkins publicó Oceaniaun “album dentro del álbum” que, aunque pertenece al gran proyecto de Teargarden by Kaleidoscope, se ha editado independientemente y será el trabajo que presentarán, junto con temas de siempre, en Rock Coast Festival. The Smashing Pumpkins ha vendido más de 30 millones de discos.

Billy Corgan have not wanted to lose this first date  and closed the cartel on Thursday, May 24. They reach the isles celebrating 25 years of career and with his new job, Oceania. The group, led by Billy Corgan, him are guitarist Mike Byrne, bassist Nicole Fiorentino, and Jeff Schroeder also on guitar.

With songs like 1979; Tonight, tonight; Perfect, Ava Adore, or The Everlasting Gaze marked an era in the rock. After its reunification in 2007 and after seven years of separation from the group, The Smashing Pumpkins released Zeitgeist. In principle, Corgan, after this recording in Studio, assured that the traditional album format had died, and was proposed to launch through Internet Teargarden by Kaleidoscope, a trickle of 44 songs whose publication in the network began in 2009 with A Song for a Son and that is still humming themes with a little regular periodicity. However, Corgan decided that some of those songs should go together and throw in the traditional format, so The Smashing Pumpkins released “album in the album”, Oceania but belongs to the great project Teargarden by Kaleidoscope, been edited independently and will be the work presented jointly with items always in Rock Coast Festival. The Smashing Pumpkins has sold more than 30 million albums.

BILLY CORGAN, vocalista de THE SMASHING PUMPKINS, participará en la Conferencia interactiva SXSW la próxima semana. El cantante, compositor y guitarrista se unirá a Brian Solis, autor de varios libros entre ellos “he End of Business as Usual,” el lunes, 12 de marzo (3:30 PM, centro de convenciones de Austin, Ballroom D).

El debate, titulado “No More (Music) Business As Usual” – será sobre temas clave del nuevo libro de Solís y  sobre la experiencia de CORGAN a lo que se refiere a la industria de la música como un todo. Explorarán cómo la tecnología está influyendo en nuestra vida personal y profesional y cómo afecta esto al negocio de la música, el arte y la vida de un artista. El enfoque será sobre la modificación de los métodos que utilizan los artistas para brindar música por volver a inventar nuevos sistemas que pueden trabajar de la mano con el arte que crearon. El objetivo será poner el arte de la música a la vanguardia haciendo caso omiso de la continua necesidad de la industria de la música a los sistemas estandarizados para promocionar y vender música en una época de cambio constante.

CORGAN citará algunos ejemplos de cómo está abarcando estos cambios con sus propios proyectos incluyendo Teargarden By Kaleidyscope, la SPRC  (Smashing Pumpkins Record Club) y el concepto de traer la experiencia de álbum a través de lo próximo de THE SMASHING PUMPKINS (Oceania)

BILLY CORGAN, frontman for THE SMASHING PUMPKINS, will participate in a panel at the SXSW Interactive Conference next week. The singer, songwriter and guitarist will be joining Brian Solis, author of multiple books including “The End of Business as Usual,” Monday, March 12 (3:30 PM, Austin Convention Center, Ballroom D).

The discussion—titled “No More (Music) Business As Usual”– will be about key themes from Solis’ new book and CORGAN’s experience as it relates to the music industry as a whole. They will explore how technology is influencing our personal and professional lives and how that affects the music business, artistry and an artist’s livelihood. The focus will be on changing the methods that artists use to deliver music by re-inventing new systems that can work hand in hand with the art they created. The goal will be to put the art of music back to the forefront by ignoring the continual need of the music industry to standardized systems to promote and sell music in an era of constant change.

CORGAN will cite examples of how he is embracing these changes with his own projects including the ongoing Teargarden By Kaleidyscope releases, the direct-to-fan SPRC (Smashing Pumpkins Record Club) and the concept of bringing back the album experience through THE SMASHING PUMPKINS’ upcoming release of Oceania.

En preparación para el lanzamiento de la próxima semana de la Edición de tapa blanda de Everybody Loves Our Town: An Oral History of Grunge (13 de marzo;  infoaquí), estoy compartiendo algunos descartes del libro para mis lectores del blog. Para evitar confusiones, extirpo el siguiente relato del ex baterista de Pearl Jam, Dave Abbruzzese, que implica a una mujer molesta por el super éxito de PJ “Jeremy”. Dave me dijo en el rodaje que la mujer dijo que ella había sido testigo de lo que se produjo – a mediados – de los 80s en Richardson, Texas

DAVE ABBRUZZESE (baterista de Pearl Jam) en 1999, salí y giré con Harry Apes BMX. Cuando tocamos en Dallas, esta chica se acercó a mí después del espectáculo y dijo, “Necesito hablar contigo”, ella parecía angustia. Nos sentamos en la mesa, y empezó a soltar mierda de mi — me dio un tortazo en toda la cara. Dijo, “¿Cómo te atreves?

Ella estaba llorando y me enteré de que ella era la novia de Jeremy, el niño real. Ella estaba en el aula cuando ocurrió. Me dijo que fue muy duro para su familia, sus  amigos y para ella,  intentaron lidiar con el dolor y entonces, de repente,  la canción es la nº 1 como canción y vídeo. Ella expresó básicamente todos esos años de sufrimiento ante mi. Representé a la banda

In the lead-up to next week’s release of the trade paperback edition of Everybody Loves Our Town: An Oral History of Grunge (out March 13; order info here), I’ve been sharing some of the book’s better outtakes for my faithful blog readers. In order to avoid confusion, I excised the following story from ex-Pearl Jam drummer Dave Abbruzzese, which involves a woman upset by PJ’s classroom-shooting mega-hit “Jeremy.” Dave told me the shooting the woman said she’d witnessed occurred in the early- to mid-’80s in Richardson, Texas (he recalled hearing about the incident back when he was going to school in nearby Mesquite). That doesn’t sync up with what Eddie Vedder has said were the two incidents(the primary one in Richardson, but in 1991) that inspired “Jeremy.” In retrospect, I think I should have kept the story in the book, as it’s a good one:

DAVE ABBRUZZESE (Pearl Jam drummer) Around 1999, I went out and toured with the Harry Apes BMX. When we played in Dallas, this girl came up to me after the show and said, “I need to speak to you,” and she seemed distressed. We sat down at the table, and she just smacked the shit out of me—just whack, across the side of the face. She said, “How dare you?”

She was crying, and I come to find out that she was the girlfriend of Jeremy, the real kid. She was in the classroom when it happened. She told me that his family and friends and her, they tried so hard to deal with the grief and then, just as they’re moving on with their lives, it’s the No. 1 song and video. She basically expressed all those years of distress from having to replay this memory over and over. So I took one for the band.
