El ex-guitarrista de Hole, Eric Erlandson, anda promocionando su nuevo libro, “Letters To Kurt” y en una entrevista con Fuse.tv ha explicado que Kurt Cobain estaba trabajando en un disco en solitario antes de su muerte, en abril de 1994.

“(Kurt) iba en una dirección realmente guay. Habría sido su ‘White Album’,” en referencia al disco de The Beatles. “A eso se dirigía, un álbum en solitario pero trabajando con gente diferente. Yo estaba realmente emocionado con algo del material en el que trabajaba. Le vi tocar delante de mi. Por eso yo estaba realmente triste (cuando murió). Me dije, ‘Oh tío, no solo te estás quitando la vida sino un mensaje al mundo… ¿Quien sabe donde habría ido la música?”

Según comenta Erlandson existe la posibilidad de que algún día salga a la luz algo de ese material. “Oí de alguien sacando algo crudo en acústico… Y eso sería más íntimo que el box set (‘With The Lights Out’ de 2004) porque todas esas pequeñas jams se sacaron (del box set).” El músico espera que algún día esas sesiones puedan ser oídas por el público. “No controlo las cosas. Solo deseo que salga algo. Creo que los fans estarían felices.”

Según parece el material está en la línea de la demo “Do Re Mi”: “Imagínate algo así,” aseguraErlandson.

Notably, that Cobain was demoing new songs at the time of his death that transcended anything he’d written so far: “[Kurt] was headed in a direction that was really cool. It would have been his White Album,” Erlandson says, referring to the Beatles’ self-titled magnum opus.

He adds, “That’s really what he was going towards, a solo album but working with different people. I was really excited about some of the stuff he was working on. I got to see him play it in front of me. That’s why I was really sad [when he died]. I was like, ‘Oh man, not only are you cutting off a life, but a message to the world, a musical path is just left with … Bush and all this other stuff [laughs]. He was cut short. Who knows where the music would have gone.”

Erlandson adds that a demo of Cobain performing a cover of a well-known song exists, but he wouldn’t confess which song it was, exactly.

“There is one cover… I won’t say what it is. I don’t own the stuff,” explains Erlandson. “I just hope that one day it will be released for fans. It’s just so heartbreaking.” I then asked if the song would be considered a surprising selection for Cobain, who loved everything from Creedence Clearwater Revival to Metallica. “No, it’s not surprising. It’s a very sweet, just touching song.”

He adds that an album of rough Cobain demos could someday be released. “I heard some talk about somebody putting together some raw, rough acoustic thing … and that would be more intimate than the box set [2004's With the Lights Out], because all those little jams you have to throw out [for that box set release]. They presented some [of the demos] but there is stuff that has not been put out.”

I mentioned a favorite of those demos, “Do Re Mi,” and Erlandson said the unreleased material was in that vein.

“Imagine that,” he says of an album of rough demos. “I’m not in control of things. I just wish something would come together. I think the fans would be a lot happier. If nobody ever hears those songs, except for like three people, then … that’s the way it goes.”

En un día como hoy pero de 1991, el álbum homónimo de Temple of the Dog es lanzado en A&M Records. El álbum está dedicado a Andrew Wood, con Chris Cornell escribiendo las dos primeras canciones poco después de la muerte de Wood. Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready y Eddie Vedder de Pearl Jam y Matt Cameron de Soundgarden acompañan a Cornell en el álbum.

En un día como hoy pero de 2010 Soundgarden toca su primer concierto de reunión, un concierto secreto con la banda como “NudeDragons” (anagrama de Soundgarden) en el Showbox en Seattle.

I was able to attend the Jimmy Buffett show in Omaha, NE last night and about half way through his set Jimmy mentioned that he was now playing the New Orleans Jazz Fest. He then went on to say he hoped EV got better soon. Pretty classy!
