Chris Cornell, vocalista de Soundgarden, ha hablado con Billboard de “Live To Rise”, el tema que la banda de Seattle aporta a la banda sonora de “The Avengers”.

“Lo difícil de componer una canción para una película es que, primero y más importante, tiene que ser una canción deSoundgarden, y luego, obviamente, tiene que coexistir con la película.”

La banda, que andaba trabajando en su nuevo disco (con vistas a su publicación en otoño), recibió la propuesta de componer una canción para la película en marzo pero tras repasar el material que tenían compuesto, no vieron nada que encajara, por lo que Cornell y el guitarristaKim Thayil se pusieron manos a la obra obteniendo “Live To Rise”.

No es la primera vez que Cornell compone para un filme (“Casino Royale” o “Machine Gun Preacher” cuentan con temas compuestos por él) pero está claro que no es lo mismo hacerlo en solitario que con Soundgarden: “La mayor diferencia es que, por mi cuenta, soy el único responsable de mi identidad. En el contexto de Soundgarden, es una banda con un gran y prominente lugar en la música rock y los cuatro tenemos nuestras ideas de lo que es la identidad de Soundgarden. Eso va primero. Tiene que funcionar de forma natural como canción deSoundgarden antes de considerar cualquier otra cosa.”

Soundgarden was approached in early March to contribute a song to the film. They were working on their reunion album, a fall release of which is anticipated, and after going through their tracks nothing seemed appropriate. Cornell and guitarist Kim Thayil started from scratch and came up with “Live to Rise.”

It is the first Soundgarden track to be written for a film, though Cornell has contributed tracks to movies such as “Mission Impossible II,” James Bond film “Casino Royale” and last year’s “Machine Gun Preacher.”

“The biggest difference,” Cornell said in drawing the distinction between his solo work for film and the new Soundgarden track, “is that, on my own, I’m only responsible for the identity of me. In the context of Soundgarden, it’s a band that has a long and prominent place in rock music and all four of us have our own ideas of what the musical identity of Soundgarden is. That has to be served first. It has to function naturally as a Soundgarden song before you even consider anything else.”

-Se espera que en julio de inicio la gira de Oceanía. Se planea un gran espectáculo, podría ser aún mayor si a la gente le encanta el álbum. Billy está increíblemente confiado acerca de Oceanía, elogió la nueva banda.

-Dice que se arrepiente acerca de que la formación original no durase más y lamenta no tener una mejor relación con los miembros en la actualidad, aunque no estén juntos.

-Planning on July to kick off Oceania tour. Planning a big show, could be even bigger if people love the album as much as behind the scenes people do. Billy sounded incredibly confident about Oceania, praised the new band.

-Says he has regrets about the original lineup not lasting longer, and regrets not having a better relationship with the members today, even though they’re not together.

“Pearl Jam es una banda que no hacen nada que no quieran hacer”, dijo el administrador del DeLuna Fest Gus Brandt. “Creo que harán sólo dos conciertos en Estados Unidos este año, y que el DeLuna Fest a sea uno de ellos es un gran negocio.”
