I remember playing a show at bar in Vancouver, BC, in 1986…. We were the absolute best that Soundgarden was at that time. I could feel it. The audience was pinned against the wall looking at us and didn’t have a clue as to what it meant. It was like, What? An indie rock band with huge riffs that sounds like ’70s rock? And that was not okay for a band that wanted to fit into the punk rock world! I remember an ashtray whizzing right by my head. It almost hit me in the eye. Just then I thought, Wow. This is clearly an indication that we’re onto something. We are pissing these people off. They don’t understand it, yet it’s effortless for us. That was when I knew that Soundgarden was onto something special.


Me recuerdo tocando en un concierto en un bar de Vancouver BC, en 1986. Estabamos absolutamente en el mejor momento de Soundgarden. Lo podía sentir. El público estaba apelotonado en el muro mirándonos sin parar. Era como ¿Qué? Una banda indie con riffs de los 70. Eso no es bueno para una banda que quiere meterse en el mundo del punk rock!. Recuerdo un cenicero zumbándome al lado de la cabeza. Casi me golpeó en el ojo. En ese momento pensé: Wow. Esto es claramente una indicación de que estamos en lo cierto. Estamos meando a esta gente. Ellos no lo entienden, sin embargo, es fácil para nosotros. Eso fue cuando me di cuenta de que Soundgarden estaba en algo especial.

Billy Corgan habla sobre ser suicida mientras grababa el siamese dream y las regrabaciones

Dijo que de esto: "Yo era un suicida, y que había estado planeando mi propia muerte durante unos dos meses, y si alguna vez has leído algo sobre los signos de advertencia de suicidio una de ellas es que  empezó a regalar todas sus cosas, y Había regalado todas mis cosas, me regalaron todos mis discos, empecé a dar mis guitarras. 


Yo estaba fantaseando con mi propia muerte, me puse a pensar como sería mi funeral y que música se pondría en él, yo estaba en ese nivel de locura. "Corgan también habló sobre el hecho de que durante la grabación del álbum, a menudo se overdub (No se lo que significa eso) las partes sus compañeros de banda en el momento de D'Arcy James Iha Wretsky y había grabado con el fin de lograr el sonido que quería.


Dijo que de esto: "Ensayamos mucho, hemos trabajado mucho juntos, hemos argumentado en otras cosas que la música, que en realidad nunca argumentó sobre la música. Ellos creían en lo que el álbum representa, en realidad creía realmente en el disco, pero la realización física del expediente, que no podrían vivir hasta ese nivel de escrutinio, que no podían cumplir con ese nivel de presión. Destruyó mi salud ya sabes, es destruido mis relaciones, me fui fuera de mi mente. "

Corgan also spoke about his desperate state of mind during the album’s recording, revealing that he’d been plotting his own death for two months during the album’s creation.


He said of this: “I was suicidal, and I’d been plotting my own death for about two months, and if you’ve ever read anything about the warning signs of suicide one of them is you give away all your stuff, and I’d given away all my stuff, I gave away all my records, I started giving away my guitars. I was fantasising about my own death, I started thinking what my funeral would be like and what music would be played, I was at that level of insanity.”


Corgan also spoke about the fact that during the recording of the album, he would often overdub the parts his bandmates at the time D’Arcy Wretsky and James Iha had recorded in order to achieve the sound he wanted.


He said of this: “We rehearsed a lot, we worked together a lot, we argued about things other than music, we actually never argued about music. They believed in what the album represented, they actually really believed in the album, but the actual physical making of the record, they couldn’t live up to that level of scrutiny, they couldn’t live up to that level of pressure. It destroyed my health you know, it destroyed my relationships, I went out of my mind.”
