El hombre principal de Foo Fighters Dave Grohl recientemente escribió una nota a los fans en la página oficial de los Foo Fighters, agradecimiendoo a los fans su dedicación y apoyo durante la banda en los tiempos recientes, que cada vez son peores. Grohl también mencionó que él ya está pensando en el próximo álbum de Foo Fighters y ahora, las cosas han ido un paso más allá y Grohl se ha reunido con el productor de Wastingh Light (Y Nevermind) Butch Vig para tener una idea de algunos demos!
Butch Vig twitteó la confirmación de su reunión con Grohl (20 de diciembre) la semana pasada: "Pasé todo el día ayer con Dave en 606 escuchando nuevas demostraciones, algunas son grandes canciones nuevas!"
¿Próximo álbum de Foo Fighters', una vez más, estará producido por el Sr. Vig? Este tweet es una buena indicación. Según el viejo adagio, si no ha roto, ¿por qué arreglarlo?

En la nota citada de Grohl, realmente se insinua otro álbum producido por Butch Vig y que él fue el principal factor para el éxito del Wasting Ligth. Afirmó que, "sobre todo, hemos querido [el disco] que tenga un sonido enorme: es por eso que decidimos utilizar a Butch Vig. Su papel en toda esta experiencia es enorme, y merece un gran 'gracias', también. No muchos productores aceptaría el reto que le entregamos. Él es el mejor, seguro. Juntos, hicimos el álbum de su vida. Nuevamente".

Añadió que los Foos son, "No están terminados aún. Hay todavía más espectáculos para tocar, más canciones para escribir, más discos para grabar, en los años venideros. Quiero decir…...Si me hubiera dicho hace 17 años que en el 2012 estaría escribiendo canciones para nuestro album….bien… studio 8... Si no fuera por ustedes, nos estaría aquí."

Foo Fighters main man Dave Grohl recently wrote a note to fans on the Foo Fighters’ official website, thanking them for their dedication and support during the band’s most recent, Wasting Light, run. Grohl also mentioned that he’s already thinking about the next Foo Fighters album, and now, things have gone a step further and Grohl has met with Wasting Light (and Nevermind) producer Butch Vig to get a feel for some demos!

Butch Vig tweeted confirmation of his meeting with Grohl last week (Dec. 20): “Spent all day yesterday with Dave at 606 listening to new demos, some great new songs!” Does this mean Foo Fighters’ next album, once again, will have production by Mr. Vig? This tweet is a good indication. As the old adage goes, if it’s not broken, why fix it?

In Grohl’s aforementioned note, he actually hinted at another Butch Vig-produced Foos album and gave the producer chief credit for the success of Wasting Light. He stated that, “most of all, we wanted [the album] to sound huge: That’s why we decided to use Butch Vig. His role in this whole experience is huge, and he deserves a great ‘thanks’, too. Not many producers would accept the challenge that we handed him. He’s the best, for sure. Together, we made the album of a lifetime. Again.”

He added that the Foos are, “not finished yet. There are still more shows to play, more songs to write, more albums to record, for years to come. I mean…..If you would have told me 17 years ago that in 2012 I would be writing songs for our 8th studio album….well….. Pearl Jam en el "Late Nigth" con Jimmy Fallon

Dado que el autor del libro conmemorativo de los veinte años de Pearl Jam juntos es un agente de reserva para el Late Night con Jimmy Fallon, realmente llegó sin ninguna sorpresa cuando Fallon twitteo que Pearl Jam podría aparecer en el show el 8 de septiembre y el 9.  Sin embargo, con ningún álbum para promover, nadie sabía qué canciones poder esperar, y el 8 de septiembre, había rumores de una nueva canción y un cover de Pink Floyd

En la madrugada del 8 de septiembre (técnicamente ya era 9) Jimmy Fallon nos da  una nueva canción de Pearl Jam, "Olé!"  Poco allí después, el "Ten Club" ofreció una descarga de la versión de estudio.  Más adelante en el show, Eddie vuelve  para un dueto con Jimmy "Balls in Your Mouth", una advertencia satírica sobre la natación en el Golfo de México tras el derrame de petróleo de Deepwater Horizon del año pasado

Since the author of the book commemorating Pearl Jam’s twenty years together is a booking agent for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, it really came as no surprise when Fallon tweeted that Pearl Jam would be appearing on the show September 8th and 9th.  However, with no album to promote, no one knew what songs to expect, and on the 8th, rumors of a new song and a Pink Floyd cover were rampant.

In the wee hours of September 8th (technically the 9th) Jimmy Fallon treated us to a brand new Pearl Jam song, Olé!  Shortly there after, the Ten Club offered up a download of the studio version.  Later in the show, Eddie trotted back out for a duet with Jimmy on Balls in Your Mouth, a satirical warning about swimming in the Gulf of Mexico following last year’s Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Just when we thought this rumored Pink Floyd cover was just a treat for Fallon’s live audience, Fallon announced a Pink Floyd tribute week that featured The Shins, Foo Fighters, MGMT, and ended on Friday with Pearl Jam’s first-ever full performance of Mother.

He estado en un montón de bandas cuando era un adolescente y he tocado con un montón de gente desde Soundgarden, y aunque he tenido un montón de grandes situaciones, nada fue tan obvia como cuando formamos — los primeros días nos tocó volver a mediados de los años-de los años ochenta.

¿Hubo un punto cuando no estabais juntos en el cual os disteis cuenta de que algo se perdió?

Sí, probablemente inmediatamente. Sabíamos hay había otras cosas que queríamos hacer, pero también sabíamos que había un riesgo en esa situación. En una banda como esta, todo el mundo es un compositor. 

Desea probar diferentes ideas, ir en diferentes direcciones. Crecemos juntos, escuchamos la misma música, pero al mismo tiempo puede ser dibujo de otras influencias y desea extender sus alas creativamente. Creo que en cualquier riesgo, cuando se decide probar nuevas situaciones, entiendes que tú podrías tener éxito, que tú puedes fallar, y que tú puedes estar perdiendo una gran situación.
Me imagino a que alguien como Cliff Lee probablemente tenía que pensar en eso cuando dejó a los Mariners (Equipo de beisbol de Seattle) y viajó a Texas. Pero él no quería estar en Texas; realmente quería estar en Filadelfia y ahora es Texas la que está en laserie mundial y Philadelphia no lo es. Tienes que sopesar las cosas: ¿qué tipo de equipo construyen aquí? Gustan a estos chicos? Sí lo hago, y creo que bien podría realizarlo. Creo que inmediatamente tiene cierto grado de reconocimiento lo que tú estás dejando atrás. Sabes de qué maneras tu equipo trabaja para ti y de qué formas no lo hace. Pero con el tiempo, jugar con otras personas te puede obtener los beneficios creativos de trabajar con otras personas y sus ideas novedosas. Al mismo tiempo, es difícil reemplazar a gente que ha hecho clic inmediatamente y tiene 13 años de experiencia y con la cual el crecimiento conjunto. Es difícil el cambio.

I gather that dealing with business was part of what brought you back together.

Business is always going to be a part of it.

[In this case, business was a big part of it. In the Internet Age, nothing goes away. The band realized it needed to put its library on iTunes. It had to deal with merchandise issues. It had music out of print, and all of that gave the members occasions to reconnect.]

A lot of it is personal. It’s everything. It’s complicated. There’s sentiment, there’s desire for creative satisfaction. Having a band succeed is a function of a lot of different things. There really is an intangible sort of—I guess some people say there’s just a “magic” or “energy” to use some goofy metaphor to describe how things click. They just work. Most bands out there that have been together for any period of time, if there’s a collaborative nature to what they’re doing, it’s a pretty good bet that they have a very rare situation. 
They probably played with lots of people when they were younger, and they just found one or two partners where you realize, “Wow, we’re on the same page. We’re similar in abilities and interests, we communicate well musically, we support each other and inspire each other creatively.” I suppose one’s best muse is the people you’re working with.

I’ve been in a lot of bands when I was a teenager, and I’ve played with a lot of people since Soundgarden, and though I’ve had a lot of great situations, nothing was as immediately obvious as when we formed—the   first few days we played back in the early to mid-’80s.

Was there a point when you weren’t together that you realized you missed it?

Yeah, probably immediately. We knew that there were other things that we wanted to do, but we also knew that there was a risk in that situation. In a band like this, everyone is a songwriter. You want to try out different ideas, go in different directions. We grow together, we listen to the same music, but at the same time you might be drawing from other influences and you want to spread your wings creatively. I think in any risk like that, when you choose to try new situations, you understand that you might succeed, you might fail, you may be losing a great situation.

I imagine someone like Cliff Lee probably had to think about that when he left the Mariners and went to Texas. But he didn’t want to be in Texas; he really wanted to be in Philadelphia, and now Texas is in the World Series and Philadelphia is not. You have to weigh those things: what kind of team are they building here? Do I like these guys? Yes I do, and I think I might perform well. I hate to make sports metaphors, but here we are in the World Series and a couple of unlikely teams are facing each other.

I think immediately you have some degree of appreciation for what it is you’re leaving behind. You know what ways your team works for you and what ways it doesn’t. But over time, playing with other people you might realize the creative benefits of working with other people and their novel ideas. At the same time, it’s hard to replace people that clicked immediately, and have 13 years of experience and growth together. It’s hard to replace that.
